A Guide to Staying Healthy on Vacation

There are few situations worse than having to stay in bed while you are on vacation. Unfortunately, there are various reasons as to why you are slightly more vulnerable to coming down with a cold or catching a stomach virus while you are away.

Here is a helpful guide that will assist you in optimizing your immune system for the duration of the time that you are enjoying your holiday.

Get enough rest

It can be tempting to go out every night to explore what the country’s nightlife has to offer. However, neglecting getting enough sleep can play a substantial role in your body’s ability to ward off disease while you are away. Make a compromise and head out for a few hours every other night, making an extra effort to go to bed at a reasonable time on those evenings that you will be staying in.

Experts recommend getting a minimum of seven to eight hours worth of sleep each night.

Choose your destination wisely

Did you know that you are more likely to get sick on long haul flights? This is because of the close proximity to other people and the fact that the dry air inside the cabin dries out your nasal passages, making it easier for germs to make their way into your system. As such, it might be worthwhile to consider booking a vacation to a destination slightly closer to where you live, even if just by a couple of hours.

You can find the perfect destination and the most impressive prices at Exoticca.

Exercise

Fresh air and exercise are great for the soul and the immune system. Do your best to get out and about at every chance you get in between relaxing poolside at the hotel. Explore the city on foot or hire a bike and see even more of it, all the while treating your body to a decent dose of endorphins.

Don’t be too adventurous with your palate

If you are in a new region and you consider yourself to be a bit of a foodie, you will obviously want to sample as many of the local delicacies as you can. Unfortunately, doing so could put you at risk of developing a nasty case of food poisoning. If you must try the different flavors and specialties on offer, at least ensure that you are getting them from a reputable source. Steer clear of street food vendors as the kitchen hygiene is almost certain to be questionable, and follow where the locals go instead. They will usually have a pretty good idea of which establishments can be trusted for quality, after all.

Practice healthy habits

You’re on vacation, but that doesn’t mean that you should plan to completely let yourself go. If you wouldn’t devour two slabs of chocolate or drink a six pack of beer in one go at home, avoid the temptation to do it while you are away. By all means, indulge yourself. Just strive to do it in moderation. Look after your body and it will look after you. Try eating as much healthy food as you can or consume supplements while you’re there to offset any unhealthy habits. Supplements like celery seed extract are loaded with antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals

Enjoy your adventure.
