Phuket is one of Thailand’s dreamiest destinations – think palm-fringed white sand beaches, turquoise waters and oodles of sunshine. So, unsurprisingly, it’s somewhere you can enjoy well enough without treating yourself to a stay in a lavish hotel – but where’s the fun in that?
Personally, I think if you really want to make the most of a setting like this, you should go all out. And with that in mind, I’ve put together a list of the most luxurious resorts you can stay in – get ready to start daydreaming…
Angsana Laguna Phuket
Best for: Families
Where: The Laguna enclave on the north-west coast of Phuket
This beautiful resort has an amazing location, from where you can enjoy the absolutely stunning Bang Tao Bay. The lagoons and sandy beaches here are to die for, while the complex itself has heaps of great facilities, including an 18-hole golf course, spa, freshwater swimming pool and kids’ club.
What I think is fantastic about this place is that it balances what it has to offer children and adults really well. So, coming here doesn’t feel like you’re compromising luxury for the sake of staying somewhere family-friendly.
And, while both kids and adults will find plenty in the way of entertainment, families are also well looked after in terms of accommodation. There are several types of rooms/suites you can choose from, but the one and two-bedroom lofts are generally considered best for families.
Now, while I’ve said it’s ideal for parents and kids, I don’t really think anyone can go too far wrong by staying here. So, if you’re planning to travel with your partner or friends, there’s no need torule this hotel out.
Centara Grand Beach Resort Karon
Best for: Ultimate relaxation
Where: The quiet northern end of Karon Beach
Pretty much everything about this resort says ‘relaxation’. The peaceful setting, the indulgent facilities, the luxurious accommodation – it’s all there. So, what are the absolute best features of this hotel?
Its location has to be up there among the top. Not only is it perched somewhere tranquil, but it’s backed by gorgeous green hills too. I also like how the hotel makes the most of its position; for example, the rooftop Luna Bar has some amazing views (not to mention fab cocktails!).
There’s a water park with a lovely lazy river, while there’s also a spa, fitness club, several swimming pools (including a separate pool for kids) and the excellent Cove Restaurant, which serves up both Asian and international cuisine.
Just as a quick note, there’s a kids’ club at this venue too, so if you’ve got a young family but have some serious relaxation in mind, this is a pretty safe choice.
Best for: People looking for chic, stylish getaways and unique spa experiences
Where: A secluded spot right on Nai Yang Bay Beach
The Indigo Pearl is a seriously stylish resort. It took its design inspiration from the island’s tin mining past, so the architecture and decor are a little bit different to the norm.
There’s a lot to look forward to here if you’re hoping for an indulgent getaway. Among the things that particularly caught my eye is the Coqoon Spa. Now, you’re probably thinking that both the above resorts offer spas too, so the fact that this establishment has one isn’t that special.
Well, what this spa offers is pretty unique. What I love about it is that there are treatment rooms and facilities like experience showers outside, against the setting of a dense forest. The idea of getting a little pampering in that kind of environment sounds truly amazing!
There are also several swimming pools, a fitness centre, tennis courts and even a dive centre (though you should be aware that if you want to dive, trips under the surface are payable locally rather than included in the price of your stay).
Of course, these are just a few of your options for places to stay in Phuket. You can check out more with companies like Hayes & Jarvis. Let me know if you find any you think are better than the above!
