Things to do at the Beach

If there’s one sight that most of us associate with being on holiday, it’s the image of someone reclined on a deck chair in the sun enjoying a cocktail while at the beach. That’s also what most of us spend all day picturing while we are working in our offices, and it is what the majority of us are working toward at that time.

Being at the beach is no doubt an incredibly relaxing feeling, but once you’re there it’s important that you know how to make the most of it. To that end, here we will look at how to get the most from being at the beach by addressing some of the great things you can do there.

Sun Bathing: Of course the first thing lots of people will want to do when going to the beach is to sun bathe, often with the end goal of getting a nice tan. This is a great way to enjoy time at the beach no doubt, and it’s something that everyone should do at least once on their holiday.

Make sure of course too that you are careful not to burn and that you consider safety first. Take tan, give yourself a break from time to time and have something to cover yourself up if you need to.

Ball Games: There are countless ball games you can play at the beach and this is a great way to spend time there with a group of friends – or as a way to meet new people. Volleyball is one of the big ones and if there’s a net why not challenge another group? Alternatively you can also bring more exciting ball games such as soft cricket, or you can take your game to the sea for a bit of water polo or pat ball while contending with the waves.

Snorkeling: Not every beach has snorkeling but if you are lucky enough to be in Hawaii your in luck! Maui has great snorkel tours in the Molokini crater. Oahu has snorkeling tours on the beach in Hanauma Bay.

Eat!: Eating at the beach is the ultimate way to enjoy food al-fresco. Make sure that you pack things that will be easy to consume there and try to avoid dropping anything in the sand which will rather ruin your meal. Either pack a picnic, or if it’s allowed and if you can find a disposable one, try having a barbeque. This is great in the evening when it’s cool but still warm enough for shorts and it’s something you could probably only do on holiday.

Drink: If you’re on holiday then no doubt there are strips of bars down by the sand. Sitting here and enjoying the view while sipping a cocktail is the height of decadence.

Read: There are many of us who will only read when on holiday, and this is a great way to ‘forget it all’. Take a Kindle and you’ll have access to almost every book you could want, but more importantly you’ll be able to read without having to hold the pages open.

Build Castles: Building castles doesn’t just have to be for kids, and if you make it into a competition to see who can build the most epic creation then it can be pretty fun and make a great photo opp at the end.
